New Technologies

Our new technologies practice covers a wide range of business sectors such as information technology (including telecommunications, multimedia, computer systems, hardware, software, equipment and technology supply, consultancy services and e-business), biotechnology, life science and healthcare, microtechnology and nanotechnology.

Supported by the one-team structure of our firm, we offer the multi-faceted legal services required by technology companies and by companies confronted with new technologies law issues. We advise a wide range of clients based in Switzerland and abroad, from global players and multinational corporations to small one-product companies.

We have developed and maintained specific expertise in assisting clients throughout the life cycle of complex IT projects, such as software development, systems integration, ASP solutions, application management, business process and IT outsourcing. As a result, we are often able to suggest to clients and implement with them creative solutions based on our knowledge of the specific legal issues raised by new technologies matters, our understanding of the industry and our experience in the field. Our attorneys' understanding of the technical and commercial aspects of our client's projects, combined with our experience in negotiating deals and the firm's accumulated knowledge of the common legal and contractual pitfalls, enable us to assist our clients efficiently and to bring real added value to their ventures.

We have extensive expertise in information technology law issues, such as e-commerce (web-selling, on-line licensing, e-advertising, internet banking, exchange platforms, marketplaces, e-procurement, etc.), assessment of web strategies, privacy and security issues, outsourcing of IT resources, web communities, digital signature and public key infrastructures, as well as the resolution of domain names disputes.

We regularly advise international clients on cross-border M&A, financing, competition law issues, as well as joint ventures and restructuring. We are regularly involved in technology transfer issues and have acquired a market leader position in the field.
We advise investment banks, private equity and venture capital firms and funds, corporate venture funds, as well as incubators active in the industry in connection with raising finance for start-up or growing companies. We are recognized as a leading firm in these matters, with a track record spanning numerous industries.

We assist both start-ups and investors with exit strategies (trade sales, IPOs, etc.) and over the years have regularly assisted founders, investors and companies, from inception to a successful exit. We have developed close ties with a number of academic institutions with whom we work on a regular basis in this field.
